Delete your HypeNow account

You delete your HypeNow account in the app, in a few steps. The deletion takes effect immediately and cannot be undone.

Last updated: October 21, 2026

In the app: Profile › gear › “Account” › “Delete HypeNow account”

How to delete your account

  1. In the app, open the “Profile” tab and tap the gear at the top. That opens Settings.
  2. Open “Account” and tap “Delete HypeNow account”. In older app versions the row sits right at the top under “Account”.
  3. The app asks: “Really delete the account?” “Delete HypeNow account” confirms; “Cancel” leaves everything as it is.
  4. If your account is secured with Apple, you then confirm the deletion with Apple once (more on this).
  5. Finally the app shows “Account deleted.”

If you have connected Steam, you also find the same row in Settings under “Connections” › “Steam”.

“Delete HypeNow account” only appears while your device is signed in to a HypeNow account. If the app never created an account, there is none on our server to delete. If you signed out, first sign in with Apple again in Settings under “Account”.

Accounts secured with Apple

If you secured your account with “Sign in with Apple”, the app opens Apple’s sheet after you confirm, and you confirm the deletion there once. Our server sends the one-time code Apple issues for this back to Apple; that ends “Sign in with Apple” for HypeNow. We do not store the code.

If you close Apple’s sheet without confirming, nothing is deleted.

If Apple does not confirm, the app shows “Apple did not confirm”. You can then still delete with “Delete without the Apple sign-out”. In that case you end “Sign in with Apple” for HypeNow yourself: iPhone Settings › Apple ID › “Sign in with Apple” › HypeNow. If our server cannot reach Apple, the app also tells you at the end how to end it yourself.

You need no other credentials to delete: HypeNow accounts have no password. Your account is bound to your device and, if you secured it, to your Apple ID.

Immediate and final

The deletion takes effect immediately. There is no waiting period, and it cannot be undone.

Afterwards the app removes this account’s library from this device; settings such as language, region and providers stay. The app does not create a new account by itself. If you later sign in with Apple again, HypeNow finds no account — you can then create a new, empty one.

What is deleted

On our server we delete your account’s data:

  • Account and sign-in: your account, the sign-in on all devices, the link to “Sign in with Apple” and, if connected, the Steam connection with your Steam data.
  • Library: watchlist, watched titles, favorites, ratings, notes (if kept in your account), play states, saved and listened-to music, who and what you follow, how far you have watched series, your settings and your taste profile.
  • What HypeNow watches for you, and notifications: bells, price alerts and price targets, your notifications in the app and your registration for notifications on your device.
  • Friends and community: friendships and requests, shared watchlists, Taste Match, your group searches, all your lists — including shared and public ones —, your hypes and saved lists, your username with profile and “About you”, follows in both directions, blocks, feed activity, and reports you sent or that concern you.

Other devices signed in to the same account are signed out the next time they connect. What is stored on them stays there until you delete it there — for example by removing the app.

What your friends and others notice

  • You disappear from your friends’ lists; open requests, shared watchlists and your Taste Match end.
  • Group searches you started end for everyone in them.
  • Your lists are gone, shared and public ones too; links to them lead nowhere. People who saved or hyped one of your lists no longer have it.
  • If someone made their own version of one of your lists, they keep it — without any reference to you.
  • Your username and community profile are gone. For 30 days nobody else can take your username.
  • Other people’s feed entries about your lists are no longer shown.

What remains — and for how long

  • An empty record of your account with its internal identifier, its creation and deletion date and your Hype ID, so that the identifier and the Hype ID are never issued again — likewise, with a reference to your account, for earlier device accounts that were merged into your account. It is kept permanently.
  • If your device was registered for notifications, an emptied record of your app installation: a random identifier and a point in time. It is kept permanently too.
  • If you had a username, for 30 days a block on its simplified spelling. This record does not point to your account; once the block has ended, it is deleted the next time any username is changed.
  • Entries in other people’s “Notifications” that go back to something you did — for example that you follow them or published a list: read ones up to 90 days, unread ones up to a year after they were created. Internally they carry your account’s identifier, entries about a list you shared or published also its title.
  • Other people’s feed entries about your lists: no longer shown, deleted 90 days after they were created.
  • Our server logs: at most 7 days.
  • Reports through “Report a problem”, “Report an error” and the contact form: 180 days; the app’s error reports: 60 days. They contain no identifier of your account.
  • Copies in backups of our database: restore points at Cloudflare and backups we make before changes to the database.

All details are in the privacy policy, section 18.

Without the app

You can only delete your account in the app.

  • Secured with Apple: reinstall HypeNow and sign in with the same Apple ID — on first launch under “Used HypeNow before?” or in Settings under “Account”. Then delete the account as described above.
  • The same iPhone: after a reinstall the app can use your previous account again. You then find “Delete HypeNow account” as described above.
  • Never secured with Apple: such an account is bound to your old device. If the device is lost or reset, or if you signed out, it cannot be recovered — it has no email address or password through which you or we could match it to you. It then stays stored on our server; there is currently no automatic deletion of unused accounts.

So please delete your account in the app before you remove the app or reset your device.
